About Maven Mitigation

Maven Mitigation is an owner-operated water damage mitigation company serving the Greater Houston area. It is run by Vincent Sims, who spent more than 20 years on the insurance side of water losses — as an insurance adjuster and on FEMA deployments — before starting Maven to fix the part of the process he watched go wrong the most: the mitigation.
Why an adjuster started a mitigation company
Most mitigation companies learn insurance from the outside. We come from the inside.
After two decades of walking losses, writing estimates, and watching claims succeed or fail on the quality of the documentation, a pattern was impossible to ignore: mitigation crews that missed moisture. Homes marked "dry" that were not dry. Estimates that came in 18–36% short because nobody metered behind the baseboards. Homeowners who paid the price twice — first in mold, then in a disputed claim.
Maven Mitigation exists to do that part right: find all of the water, dry it verifiably, and hand the homeowner a documentation package their adjuster cannot argue with.
What we believe
The meter is the truth. Not the eye, not the smell, not "it feels dry." Moisture readings, logged daily, until the structure hits dry standard.
Tell people the truth, even when it costs us a job. Some water damage does not need us. When that is the case, we say so on the phone, for free.
Houston is different. HVAC systems and water heaters in attics. Gulf humidity that never lets wet materials recover on their own. Slab foundations that hide plumbing. Tropical storm season. Mitigation advice written for Phoenix does not work here, and we do not recycle it.

Every guide on this site is written from field experience — real Houston losses, real claims, real homeowner conversations — by Vincent Sims. Where a guide touches manufacturer warranty periods or insurance policy specifics, we say so and tell you to verify against your own documents, because the honest answer is sometimes "it depends on your policy."
